Did you know you can recycle your non automotive batteries at the Fairbanks North Star Borough Central Recycling Facility (FNSB CRF) with your regular recycling?
Batteries turned into the FNSB CRF are weighed and then taken to Green Star’s Electronics Warehouse to be sorted. Each battery has to be shipped in a container where all the batteries have the same chemistry, so our volunteers sort them three times by chemistry. The lithium and tool batteries are then taped to prevent accidental discharge per our downstream recycler.
If you would like to help in this process you can tape off your batteries with clear tape that does not block the language explaining chemistry type.
You can recycle your car/atv batteries at the black totes located at the FNSB Landfill or Transfer Sites.
It is especially important that we recycle batteries as they can cause fires in landfills and contain critical minerals that can be used again instead of mined for.
Please email us at if you have any recycling questions or call us at 907-452-4152. We are also looking for more volunteers to sort batteries on Thursday mornings from 9-11am, if you are interested please fill out our volunteer form here. https://iagreenstar.org/volunteer-signup/
