This past July, the Fairbanks North Star Borough’s Central Recycling Facility closed due to contracting issues. This prompted the borough to put out a Request for Proposals to solicit a new contractor to operate the Central Recycling Facility located at 1855 Marika Rd., which intersects with Aurora Drive.

We are proud to announce that Green Star of Interior Alaska was awarded the contract to become the new borough contractor to operate the borough’s Central Recycling Facility!

Green Star will be taking on the job of operating the Central Recycling Facility at the 1855 Marika Rd. location in addition to maintaining our electronics recycling services under an existing contract with the Fairbanks North Star Borough at our 2134 Texaco Ave. location.

Until the Central Recycling Facility at 1855 Marika Rd. has reopened, Green Star will continue to accept electronics, household batteries, and fluorescent tube bulbs at 2134 Texaco Ave.

After the Central Recycling Facility has reopened, please take your electronics recycling and household batteries to the Central Recycling Facility located at 1855 Marika Rd. However, Green Star will still take fluorescent tube bulbs directly at 2134 Texaco Ave. as we had before.

As we are expanding our organization to include this responsibility, we will be hiring new positions to staff the Central Recycling Facility.

We are currently seeking applicants for the following positions:

–General Manager

–Supervisor

–Recycling Technicians

–Forklift Operator

We are aiming to reopen the Central Recycling Facility at 1855 Marika Rd. to receive paper, paperboard, cardboard, #1 & #2 plastic, aluminum beverage cans, electronics, and household batteries (back to running as it had been) in November 2022.

However, please check the borough’s Solid Waste Department website for the most up to date information regarding the status of the Fairbanks North Star Borough Central Recycling Facility.
