Green Star has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 crisis and the evolving situation in Fairbanks. Considering our primary business involves handling used electronics from the public, and that the virus can survive on surfaces for multiple days, Green Star has taken the following steps to ensure the safety of our staff, our volunteers and the public:
- Canceled public, in-person events through March and April. This includes: Saturday Volunteer Workdays, Electronic Garage Sales, the Volunteer Appreciation Party, any event recycling contracts, the Repair Café, and Earth Week events.
- Weekday volunteers and resale customers are asked to not come to the warehouse until further notice.
- Staff who are able have been asked to work from home. Staff whose jobs require them to be present in our warehouse have staggered their schedules so as to avoid close contact with one another, and are required to stay home if sick.
- Regularly scheduled meetings have been moved to virtual platforms like Google Hangouts.
