FNSB Area Recycling Guide

The most current FNSB Recycling Guide is always posted on this page. The guide contains details about where materials other than those accepted at the CRF may be recycled in the FNSB.

Thanks to our sponsors, Lotto Alaska and Design Alaska, we are able to update, publish and distribute this guide regularly.

There are many materials other than those accepted at the CRF which can be recycled, but which must be delivered elsewhere for recycling. This guide is your one-stop-shop for information about how to play the reverse-scavenger-hunt that is recycling in the FNSB.

FNSB CRF Vehicle Definition / Explanation

This PDF version of the FNSB CRF Vehicle Definition / Explanation document highlights which vehicle types may be used to deliver recyclable materials to the CRF for free from either businesses or residents.

Two axle vehicles which are not flatbeds or box trucks, and single axle trailers may be used by both businesses and residents to drop off recycling at the CRF for free.

Businesses and users with large quantities or with items that need a forklift should call in advance to make an appointment. Businesses may also call to arrange early drop-off prior to the CRF opening to the public.

The phone number to the FNSB CRF is 907-374-6616. You will most likely need to leave a message, but we return calls quickly.

FNSB CRF Commercial Recycling Application

For commercial users of the CRF who would like to deliver large quantities of recyclable materials in flatbeds, box trucks, vehicles with 3 or more axles, or trailers with 2 or more axles, a formal Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) is required with the Borough.

MoA deliveries to the CRF do incur tipping fees, but the fees are much less than taking the same amount of material to the landfill.

FNSB FY 2026 solid waste fee schedule

This link takes you to the FNSB fiscal year 2026 fee schedule for the Public Works Department Solid Waste Division. Note that items recycled by the FNSB include a recycling triangle logo, and can be delivered to the landfill as outlined in the document.

Material currently accepted for recycling at the FNSB Sanitary Landfill include automobiles, household hazardous waste, scrap metal, automotive batteries, household appliances, metal containers and aluminum. Please see the fee schedule document for details. Most are free for residential drop off.

2015 FNSB Recycling Plan & Analysis

From the introduction: “This report contains a comprehensive assessment of the current state of recycling in Fairbanks, a summary of other Alaska recycling programs, an economic evaluation of recycling in Fairbanks, and recommendations for implementing a local recycling program.”

This 2015 report is relevant today because it is what informed the creation of the current CRF, which opened as a temporary facility in 2017. In FY 2026 FNSB is beginning design and analysis of the next CRF to be located on-site at the current FNSB Sanitary Landfill..
