If you’re like us, you’ve got a big stack of recyclable materials stored up, sorted and patiently waiting to be delivered to the Borough’s Central Recycling Facility (CRF) at 1855 Marika Road. You’re in luck, because the wait is over! The Central Recycling Facility is now open to the public with specific safety measures in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Please respect the following guidelines from the CRF when dropping off your recyclables:
- Any person with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 may not enter the premises. This includes cough, fever, muscle pain, new loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, chills, and/or sore throat.
- Only one person per vehicle is permitted to offload recyclable materials at a time. If possible, send only one person to drop off recyclables.
- All customers offloading materials shall wear a cloth face covering.
- At least six feet of distance must be maintained between individuals while at the CRF. FNSB employees are required to keep a log of interactions with members of the public who cannot maintain a six-foot distance, including the person’s name, phone number, and date of contact. This will help with contact tracing if it becomes necessary.
The CRF is resuming normal hours of operation (Tues-Fri 12 noon – 5:30 pm and Sat 9 am-5 pm). They are located at 1855 Marika Rd., off of Aurora.
Show us how much recycling you collected during the CRF’s 10-week closure! Post a picture of your stockpile at your home or loaded into your car on Facebook or Instagram and tag us. You can also email us your picture at , and it might be (anonymously) featured in our next newsletter!
When you bring your stacks of cans, cardboard and plastic to the CRF, don’t forget to look for any of your electronics that may be ready for recycling! As a reminder, the CRF takes the following items for electronics recycling:
- TVs, monitors, VCR/DVD players
- Tablets and cell phones (including smartphones)
- Computers, laptops, and servers
- Computer accessories (cords, cables)
- Printers, scanners, and copiers
- Microwaves and stereos
- Household batteries
- Ink and toner cartridges
- Small household appliances
The CRF does NOT accept:
- Light bulbs
- Vehicle batteries
- Smoke detectors
- Exit signs
- Thermostats (containing mercury)
- CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, or floppy discs
- Vacuum cleaners
- Gas motors
- A/C refrigerants
With the CRF open again, Green Star will receive a regular supply of electronics to repair and reuse or disassemble for recycling with our downstream vendors. Our Saturday Workdays are still on hold – we will not resume hosting large numbers of volunteers in the warehouse until we believe it safe to do so. Please see our last blog post for details about our operations under COVID-19.
We can’t wait to see your photos of all of the recycling you have collected during the closure! Thanks for doing your part to keep usable materials out of our landfill.
