Bag pickups, team signups, safety info and more!
Golden Heart Clean Up Day is upon us – Saturday – May 11th – here are some last minute details:
#1 – BE SAFE – please read the info in the cleanup day information flyer and the links to the safety details for things such as hazardous materials, bio waste, etc. https://iagreenstar.org/clean-up-day-2024-may-11th/
Street-signup – active but no confirmations now:
Signup form for streets is still active, but you will not receive an email confirmation. IT IS still useful to know where you will be cleaning if you do not plan to self-deliver your garbage. Use the form here: https://form.jotform.com/241087006820146
Self-Delivering your Clean-Up Day garbage:
If you ARE self-delivering please take garbage to the Landfill (455 Sanduri Street – ONLY YELLOW or your own bags with trash – not recyclables). Please let them know it is Golden Heart Clean-Up Day garbage.
Recyclables go to Fairbanks North Star Borough Central Recycling Facility (1855 Marika off of Aurora – ONLY GREEN or your own bags with recyclable materials). Only plastic bottles and jugs #1 & #2 and Aluminum Beverage Cans in bags please. Cardboard that is not dirty or oily and electronics and household batteries can also be dropped off at the CRF. There will be a large black fish tote out front to receive Clean-Up day recyclables.
Neighborhood clean up requests:
If you are cleaning up in neighborhoods, please DO NOT leave bags deep in the neighborhoods or on private property – the Heavy Haulers will not enter private property even to retrieve Clean-Up Day bags, so put them somewhere public or otherwise accessible without trespassing. In neighborhoods, it is also best to take them to the closest large intersection to insure they are seen ad picked up.
North Pole’s sister-event:
Green Star will be in North Pole at the North Pole Mall in support of their “Make us shine” event during Golden Heart Clean-Up Day. If you live in North Pole and have electronics for recycling you can drop them off between 10:00 and 4:00 Saturday, May 11th. Please – nothing with refrigerant or gas / oil and nothing larger than a microwave (other than TV’s). Lots of other things can be dropped off there as well. For details check out https://www.facebook.com/events/299352333214718/
Help spot and retrieve the stragglers:
Lastly – If you happen to see any bags that seem to have been missed on Saturday, please either self-deliver to the Landfill or CRF, or, if you can’t take it in yourself, please take a picture and post to FB with the tag #BAGSPOTTING – please include intersection and any detail that will help make sure the bag(s) get picked up.
