Come help us out any Saturday afternoon! Green Star needs your help with processing the recyclables collected by the Borough at the Central Recycling Facility. Volunteers help us with some of these tasks:
Cutting cords off devices and sorting them
Unloading electronics from the borough’s shipments
Sorting and packaging electronics to prepare them for shipment
Dismantling and destroying computer hard drives
Sorting and preparing batteries for shipment
Testing and fixing computers and parts for resale
Please sign up to volunteer in advance using the form below. You are welcome to volunteer for the full noon to 4pm shift, or for just part of it, we are happy to accommodate your schedule. You may also call (907) 452-4152 or email to schedule a time to come by and help.
Training is provided onsite. All volunteer shifts are conducted at our 1101 Well Street warehouse, accessed through the gated chain-link fence on the right side of the ACS building.
Volunteers must be aged 14 or older.
Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult (unless the volunteer is cleared by a Green Star staff member to be allowed to work without being accompanied).
All new volunteers will be asked to sign a waiver and release of liability. You may either download the waiver and bring it with you, or you can fill it out when you arrive at the warehouse.
Volunteers under age 18 must have their volunteer waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Until further notice, all volunteers must adhere to the following COVID-19 specific requirements:
All volunteers must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Until further notice, all volunteers must also wear a mask in the warehouse. They will be checked at the door and prevented from entry unless they are wearing one.
There should be no more than 12 people at a time in the warehouse.
A physical distance of at least six feet is maintained between non-household individuals in the warehouse.
Volunteers are still encouraged to take projects home if possible to limit their time in the warehouse.
Any persons with symptoms consistent to COVID-19 may not enter our warehouse.

We are looking forward to meeting you tomorrow (Friday, November 15th) at 10:30 to interview for the Recycling Technician position with Green Star of Interior Alaska at the FNSB Central Recycling Facility. Tomorrow is National Recycling Day, and we are hosting tours of the Central Recycling Facility beginning at 10:30, so it may be crowded, but we will get you interviewed. Please ask for Joe or Shem. Also, please park on the left hand side of the building in the lot outside of the roll up doors. Enter through the man-door in the center of the building.
