Acceptable Materials for Recycling Bin Collection
Plastic Bottles and Jugs #1 and #2
Bottles and jugs must be empty and with lids off due to downstream recycler requirements and limitations at the CRF – please – No partially full bottles or jugs, and no bottles or jugs which contained automotive fluids such as oil, hydraulic, transmission fluid, coolant, etc. Windshield washer fluid jugs are OK. You may also save and bring in your plastic bottle and jug lids separately. These lids will be collected at the CRF and provided to local craftspeople and artists. No other plastics – The CRF is not able to accept any plastic #1 or #2 other than bottles and jugs at this time – no clamshells, drink cups or other items please (other than bottle and jug lids separated as described above).
Aluminum Beverage Cans
Empty aluminum beverage cans without plastic wrap or labels can be recycled at the CRF. No other aluminum is accepted at the CRF at this time again, due to limitations set by our downstream recycler. See the Green Star FNSB Area Recycle Guide for locations to recycle aluminum other than beverage cans (and other types of metal)
Paper and Cardboard
The CRF accepts paper and cardboard products of many types with a few exceptions: No plastic, metal or wax coated items (taped packaging and plastic envelope windows or similar are acceptable). No overly dirty or oily paper products. No food-stained paper products. No facial or toilet tissue, napkins or paper towels.
Electronics
The CRF currently accepts most household and business batteries and electronics with only a few exceptions: No large appliances and nothing which required refrigerant (these can be recycled at the FNSB Landfill on Sandusky); nothing that required gasoline or oil, no vacuum cleaners, no light bulbs of any sort (see area recycle guide for options other than CRF) and no smoke detectors. No automotive batteries or batteries which can be filled. Other than that, if it ever had a battery or a cord, the CRF should accept it.
