Are you looking for educational activities that can be done at home while schools are closed? Green Star’s “Earth Day Every Day” recycling curriculum has some engaging, hands-on activities that can be adapted for students of many different ages!

You can access a FREE, downloadable version of the curriculum here.

Here are just a few of the activities you can find in the Earth Day Every Day recycling curriculum:

The Story of Stuff Video & Reflection (pages 17 & 19)
Watch the 20-minute video “The Story of Stuff,” a video about the “underside of our production and consumption patterns.” After watching the video with your family, talk about the discussion questions on page 19!

Week-long Garbage Audit (pages 20-21)
How much garbage does your family make in a week? Conduct a week-long investigation to find out!

Make your own recycled paper! (page 44)
This activity requires you to have a couple of supplies on hand, like a blender. If you have the materials, you can make your own recycled paper!

Recycling in Your Community (page 58)
The FNSB Central Recycling Facility is temporarily closed (as of March 18, 2020) to help prevent the potential spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Be prepared for its reopening by researching what materials can be recycled in Fairbanks, and make a plan to store your recyclable materials until you can drop them off!
