You’ll be hearing a lot from us about aluminum this year…
Aluminum is one of the most recycled— and recyclable — materials in use today. A recycled aluminum beverage can, car door or window frame is often recycled directly back into itself. And this process can happen virtually infinitely.

Please help us prevent this valuable resource from being buried in our landfill
Calling all cans to the CRF!
We will take all of the aluminum beverage cans you can bring to the FNSB Central Recycling Facility (CRF). And we are grateful for every one; however, until the Borough’s new CRF is built (projected around 2028) our current facility is unable to accept other types of aluminum. This has to do with RFP responses from downstream processors, and limitations with the current facility. There is good news, though!
C&R Pipe and Steel and K&K Recycling accept other types of Aluminum!
If you have dropped off your aluminum cans at the CRF and are wondering what to do with your other aluminum – things like aluminum siding, car parts, aircraft parts, anything aluminum – you have options. And we want you to use them! Check out the full list of recycling options on our updated 2024 recycling guide and map (thanks, Design Alaska)! For Aluminum other than beverage cans, you will want to get to know C&R Pipe and Steel and K&K Recycling. Please – help us keep aluminum out of our landfill.
Want to learn more about the Aluminum lifecycle in Fairbanks?
Request a CRF and / or Sanitary Landfill tour – You can also request a tour of the Green Star Electronics Recycling Facility. Once we know you’re interested we’ll let you know about opportunities to go “behind the scenes” and see how we recycle and why we should never bury any Aluminum (or anything else that can be reused or recycled). Or maybe you’ve heard enough and you’re ready to get involved. We have lots of volunteer opportunities for anyone 16-116 of any ability.
Take me behind the scenes!
