Since its inception in 2020, Green Star’s laptop donation program has evolved from a COVID response to school children needing distance learning computers into our Reboot IT Technology Grants. These systems are still available to families with school age children but are now also open to all low-income Alaskans and nonprofit organizations.

Thanks to Alaska Community Foundation’s generous $3,500 grant, we now can help even more Alaskans in need. This grant is earmarked for our Reboot IT Technology Grants program and will greatly help us with hard costs of new SSD drives and batteries for Reboot IT systems. Many of the laptops that once would have been recycled (shipped to the lower 48 to be ground up and mined for metal) we will now be able to Reboot. Having this budget allows us to keep even more systems alive and in the hands of those in need in our community.

If you know someone who is financially distressed and in need of computer equipment or a nonprofit in need of technology please visit https://iagreenstar.org/reuse-it-programs/#ReBoot-IT for details and a link to the application form.
