“I found the atmosphere at Green Star to be universally welcoming and the people there excited about the societal values of recycling as well as the cost-effectiveness of preventing pollution and extending the life of the landfill.”
It’s only with the help of fantastic volunteers like you that Green Star can help Fairbanks reduce waste and recycle more! Whether you’re a student, professional, or retiree, you will fit right in! One thing we all have in common is a commitment to a healthy and beautiful environment.

Special Event Recycling
Green Star provides recycling services for various large and small events in the community throughout the year. This program is particularly active during the spring and summer months, at various major festivals and events like the Midnight Sun Festival (June) and the Golden Wheel Summer Spectacular (August). We need many volunteers to help us make these special event recycling efforts successful! Typically, volunteers help set up for the event, make rounds emptying recycling bins and rescuing recyclables from trash bins, and sorting and preparing recyclables for delivery to local recyclers. For more information about this program, check out the Special Event Recycling page.
In addition to these recycling events, we are always looking for volunteers who are interested in helping with special projects or committees, including:
- Outreach Events (Information Booths)
- Education Projects
- Graphic Design and Marketing
- TV and Radio Production

Do you have skills or connections related to: education, environmental issues, fundraising, marketing, recycling, or special events planning?
If so, please consider joining one of Green Star’s standing committees. We are looking for energetic, creative, and enthusiastic people to support our mission: encouraging and enabling our community to reduce waste and increase recycling. Your service would be greatly appreciated, and no experience is necessary. Benefits of becoming a committee member include forming meaningful and lasting connections in the community, contributing to the impact Interior Alaska Green Star makes in our community, and supporting locally-based sustainable practices.
